# Add users to a project

## Overview: add users to a project

Adding users in Project Settings assigns each person a **project role** that defines their permissions, which is used when inviting a new team member or granting access to someone who already exists in your company.

For what each role can do, see [Description of project roles for users](https://help.cxplanner.com/en-us/article/description-of-project-roles-for-users-1enj8s0/). For user groups, see [Manage user-group permissions on a project](https://help.cxplanner.com/en-us/article/manage-user-group-permissions-on-a-project-rookqd/).

* Your role must be **Admin** or **Manager**.
* You can find the menu at **Project Settings** - **Users**.
* This changes project membership, roles, and access.

|| Only users with the project role **Admin** or **Manager** can add users to a project. **Company Admin** users can grant themselves access to company projects they are not yet invited to.

Invitations must use a business email. CxPlanner creates a company profile for new users based on that email.
