# Allow External Users to Request Adding Team Members to a Project

## Overview: request users on a project

The user request flow on the project frontpage lets users with a lesser project role ask to add team members, which is used when contractors or consultants need to involve colleagues without full management rights. A **Manager** or **Admin** must approve before access is granted.

* Your role can be **Contractor** or higher to request users. Your role must be **Manager** or **Admin** to approve requests.
* You can find the menu at project frontpage - **Users attached to the project** - user icon with a plus (+).
* This changes project access only after a Manager or Admin approves the request.

|| Only users with the project role **Manager** or **Admin** can approve and finalise adding new users to a project.

You can request one person at a time. The requested user does not gain access until approval.

## How to request a new user

1. Go to the **project frontpage**.
2. Locate **Users attached to the project** and click the **user icon with a plus (+)** next to it.
3. Enter the details of the user you want to add.
4. Submit the request.

## Results: request and approval

* The requested user does not gain access immediately
* A project **Manager** or **Admin** must review and confirm the request
* Once approved, the user is added with the assigned role

## Troubleshooting: request users on a project

| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| User is not added to the project | Request not yet approved | Ask a project **Manager** or **Admin** to open the pending request and approve it |
| Plus (+) icon not visible | You lack access to the project frontpage user request control | Ask a project **Admin** or **Manager** to confirm your project membership and whether requests are available on this project |
| User still has no access | Approval pending or rejected | Ask a **Manager** or **Admin** to check the request status and approve or re-submit if rejected |
