# Attach a checklist to an asset type in the Asset module

The Asset module attaches checklist templates to an asset type so every asset created from that type automatically receives the right checklist, used when you want standardized commissioning tests, such as FAT, SAT, or a Functional Performance Test, to apply consistently across all assets of the same type, for example every AHU or every Chiller. This page covers attaching an existing checklist template to an asset type. 

|| Only users with the project role **Manager** or higher can attach a checklist to an asset type.

## Attach a checklist to an asset type
1. Open **Assets** from the left sidebar.
2. Click **Asset Types** and open the type you want to configure, for example **Chiller** or **AHU**.
3. Select the checklist type (test section) the checklist belongs to, for example **Functional Performance Test**. The checklist type must already exist under **Types: Checklists** before it can receive a checklist here.
4. Enter a name for it, for example **Electrical**.
5. Select the checklist template to attach. Only templates already created in Template Center appear here.
6. Click **Quick add**.

## Attach more than one checklist to the same test section
CxPlanner does not support attaching more than one checklist template to the same test section within the Asset types. Each attach action works on exactly one checklist per test section, which keeps bulk update, re-import, and related features working as expected.

To run electrical, mechanical, and controls checks together under one test section, for example one Functional Performance Test, build a single combined checklist template in Template Center that includes all the trades as separate blocks, then attach that one template using the steps above.

## What happens after you attach a checklist
Every asset created after the checklist is attached automatically receives it, and a shortcut for the checklist type appears in the project sidebar. Assets that already existed before the checklist was attached do not receive it retroactively.

## If new assets still don't get the checklist automatically
This happens when the asset type isn't linked to the checklist type yet, or the checklist was attached under the wrong test section. Open the asset type's setup, confirm the checklist type and template are attached under the correct test section, and re-attach using the steps above if needed.
