# Create and manage "Custom Views" in the Punchlist

## Overview: custom views for tasks

Custom views save column, filter, and sort layouts for the punch list and task table, which is used when roles need different columns without rebuilding the view each time.

For grouping rows, see Create custom task groups for better overview.

* Your role can be any project role for personal views. Public views need **Manager** or higher. Default views need **Admin**.
* You can find views in the task overview view settings and the views dropdown.
* This changes which columns and filters you see. It does not change task data.

|| Only users with the project role **Manager** or higher can create public views. Only **Admin** can set a default view.

## How to create a custom view

1. Customize the overview: add or remove columns, then filter and sort as needed.
2. Click **Create New View** to open the save dialog.
3. Enter a name and optionally a description.
4. If you are a project **Admin**, choose **Public** so all members can see it, and optionally **Default** so new members get it automatically.
5. Use the views dropdown later to switch between saved views.

## Troubleshooting: custom views for tasks

| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| View not saving | Session expired | Refresh the page and save the view again |
| Cannot set public or default | Project role is below Manager or Admin | Ask a project **Admin** to create the public or default view |
| Columns not updating after changes | Browser cache | Clear cache and refresh |
| Default view not applied to a user | User joined before the default was set | Assign the view manually, or re-set the default |
| Custom view shows random letters and numbers | UI failure on that saved view | Delete the custom view and create it again |
