# CxAI nameplate: Enriching assets with nameplate photo

## Overview: CxAI nameplate extraction

CxAI nameplate extraction in the Assets module populates asset attributes from a photographed or uploaded nameplate image, which is used on site when equipment data is missing and must be captured from the physical asset tag.

For Excel bulk import or manual attribute edits, use those dedicated guides.

* Your role must allow access to the asset on the project.
* You can find the menu at Assets module - open asset - **Attributes** - **AI auto-update** - **Extract data from image**.
* This updates matching asset attributes and can create new attributes from the image. It does not create a new asset.

|| CxAI nameplate extraction is available on mobile and desktop, and is designed primarily for on-site mobile use.

## How to extract nameplate data with CxAI

1. Open the **Assets** module and locate the asset.
2. Open the asset. Details are on the left. **Attributes** are on the right.
3. On the **Attributes** panel, click **AI auto-update**.
4. Click **Extract data from image**.
5. On mobile, capture the nameplate with the camera. On desktop, select a saved photo.
6. Review the extracted fields. Use dropdowns for uncertain values. Click **Create** to add a new attribute when needed.
7. Click **Update all existing attributes**, or update attributes one by one.
8. Confirm the **Data added** timestamp and check the global asset overview.

## Troubleshooting: nameplate extraction

| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| CxAI extracts no data or very few fields | Nameplate image is blurry, poorly lit, or cropped | Retake the photo with better lighting and the full nameplate in frame |
| Extracted values are incorrect | Nameplate text is worn or partly obscured | Choose from the CxAI dropdown options, or edit the attribute manually after extraction |
| Extract data from image is not visible | CxAI is not enabled, or you lack access to the asset | Ask a project **Admin** to enable CxAI and confirm your access to that asset |
| Attributes do not update after clicking fields | Connectivity issue on site | Check your connection and retry, or complete the update when you have coverage |
