# Edit assets directly in asset overview

## Overview: edit assets in Asset overview

In-grid editing in **Asset Overview** lets you select several assets and update shared field values directly in the grid, which is used for fast corrections during commissioning when a full spreadsheet import is unnecessary.

For large replacements, use **Options** - **Bulk Update**.

* Your role must be **Manager** or higher.
* You can find the menu at Asset module - **Asset Overview**.
* This changes field values and active/inactive status on the selected assets.

|| Only users with the project role **Manager** or higher can perform this action.

## What CxPlanner does during in-grid editing

* Writes the same edited value to all selected assets
* Leaves blank fields unchanged
* Uses active/inactive status to control default visibility in checklists and reporting

## How to edit multiple assets in the grid

1. Go to **Asset Overview**.
2. Check the boxes next to each asset you want to edit.
3. Click the relevant column in the grid.
4. Enter the update. Changes apply to all selected assets.

## Results: grid editing versus Excel bulk update

| Status | Effect |
|---|---|
| Active | Asset appears in checklists, overview, and reporting |
| Inactive | Asset is hidden from default views and excluded from reporting |

| Situation | Recommended method |
|---|---|
| Updating a few assets quickly | Grid editing |
| Replacing data across many assets | Options - Bulk Update (Excel) |
| Adding new assets | Options - Import |

## Troubleshooting: edit assets in overview

| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Edit controls are unavailable | No assets selected, or project role is below Manager | Select at least one asset, or ask a project **Admin** to raise your role to **Manager** |
| Status filter shows no results | No assets match the selected status | Clear the status filter, or confirm assets have the expected status value |
| Changes are not saved | Session timed out or page was left before save | Re-apply the edit and confirm save before navigating away |
| Inactive assets still appear in checklists | Status change was not saved | Recheck the Status column and save the inactive status again |
