# FAQ: Platform access, Company roles and Project roles

## Overview: platform access and roles

The **Users** tab is where a **Company Admin** adds users, edits access, assigns company and project roles, resends activation emails, and manages notification preferences, which is used when onboarding people or fixing missing project access.

This FAQ covers opening **Users**, the difference between company and project roles, limiting project visibility with user groups, and why a contractor may lack Pass, Fail, or N/A on a QA checklist. For full role matrices, see the project roles and company roles articles linked below.

* Your role must be **Company Admin** to open the **Users** tab.
* You can find the menu at avatar (top right) - **Users**.
* This changes user accounts, company roles, project roles, project access, and email notification preferences.

|| Only a **Company Admin** can open the **Users** tab.

## How to open the Users tab

1. Click your **avatar** in the top right corner.
2. Select **Users**.

From **Users** you can add users, edit access, assign or change company and project roles, resend activation emails, grant project access, remove users, update user details, and manage email notification preferences.

## Company roles and project roles

Every user has both a company role and a project role.

* [Project roles](https://help.cxplanner.com/en-us/article/description-of-project-roles-for-users-1enj8s0/) control what you can do inside one project, for example create tasks, view tasks assigned to others, or add users on that project.
* [Company roles](https://help.cxplanner.com/en-us/article/understanding-company-roles-in-cxplanner-10chnxu/) control permissions across CxPlanner outside a single project, for example create projects, edit company settings, or change the logo.

## Limit what a user can see on a project

To limit or specify what a user can see inside a project, use user groups. See [Manage user-group permissions on a project](https://help.cxplanner.com/en-us/article/manage-user-group-permissions-on-a-project-rookqd/).

## Contractor cannot select Pass, Fail, or N/A in QA

If a user cannot select **Pass**, **Fail**, or **N/A**, access in the Quality Control (QA) module is limited by assignment.

Users in the same company as the checklist creator can edit QA checklists without individual assignment. A contractor from another company can complete the checklist only when it is assigned to:

* The individual user
* Their company
* Or their user group

If the checklist is unassigned, only users in the creating company can edit it.

## Results: platform access and roles

* Company roles and project roles are separate and both apply
* User groups can limit what a user sees inside a project
* QA Pass/Fail/N/A for external contractors depends on checklist assignment

## Troubleshooting: access and roles

| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Users tab not visible | You are not a **Company Admin** | Ask a **Company Admin** to open **Users** and change your company role or project access |
| User missing a project | Project access not granted | In **Users**, grant access to that project and confirm the project role |
| Contractor cannot answer QA line items | Checklist not assigned to that user, company, or group | Assign the checklist to the contractor, their company, or their user group |
