# Import a PDF Checklist into CxPlanner

## Overview: import a PDF checklist

PDF checklist import in Template Center uses CxAI to extract line items from a PDF and create an editable checklist template, which is used when owners or contractors hand over existing PDF test forms.

For Word (.docx) or Excel (.xlsx) import, see those dedicated guides.

* Your role must allow access to Template Center and CxAI.
* You can find the menu at Template Center - **AI Create and Import Files** - **Import PDF Checklist**.
* This creates a new editable template from the PDF text. Illustrations are not imported automatically.

## Requirements for PDF checklist import

| Content | Text-based checklist content works best |
| Limitation | Only text import is supported. Illustrations must be added manually |

## How to import a PDF checklist

1. Go to **Template Center**.
2. Select **AI Create and Import Files** on the right side.
3. Choose **Import PDF Checklist**.
4. Drag and drop your PDF, or browse and select it.
5. Review the extracted template details, including name, category, visible fields, and line items.
6. Click **Import Result** to finalize the checklist import.

## Results: PDF checklist import

* CxPlanner creates an editable template from the extracted line items
* You can reorganize, rename, and complete the template after import
* Missing illustrations must be added manually after import

## Troubleshooting: PDF checklist import

| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| PDF cannot be uploaded | File is corrupted or not a valid PDF | Open the file locally, re-save as PDF, then upload again |
| Checklist items missing | PDF formatting prevented full extraction | Add or edit the missing line items manually in the template |
| Files and illustrations missing | PDF import extracts text only | Add illustrations and attachments manually after import |
