Import a Excel (XLSX) Checklist into CxPlanner
Overview
How do I import checklist templates from Excel into CxPlanner?
CxPlanner allows you to import checklist templates directly from Excel. You can either import multiple templates at once using a multi-sheet Excel file or quickly copy and paste checklist data directly into an existing template.
When and why to use this
Use Excel import when you want to create or update checklist templates faster and in a more structured way.
Typical use cases:
- Creating many checklist templates at once
- Reusing existing Excel-based test procedures
- Quickly bulk importing commissioning tests
- Standardizing test procedures across projects
- Copying and pasting data directly from Excel into existing templates
Important things to know:
- CxPlanner uses a dedicated Excel template for imports
- Only the fields Topic and Test Item are required
- One Excel sheet equals one template during multi-sheet import
- You can add requirements such as photos, numeric values, and ordering after import
- Green cells in the Excel template update automatically during editing
How to - step by step
Import multiple templates using multi-sheet Excel
- Go to Template Center
- Select the relevant checklist type, for example Commissioning Test
- Click Import Files
- Select Import CxPlanner Excel
- Click Download Template to download the Excel template
- Open the downloaded Excel file and fill in the required fields:
- Topic - groups related test items together
- Test Item - the actual test procedure or verification item
- Save the Excel file
- Drag and drop the file into the upload area in CxPlanner
- Click Upload and Convert
- Review the imported templates
- Continue through the confirmation windows to complete the import

Quick import using copy-paste
If you are already inside an existing template, you can quickly paste data directly from Excel.
- Open the desired template
- Click Import from Excel
- Copy the green cells from the Excel template
- Paste the data directly into the import field in CxPlanner
- Click Import Data
- The new checklist items are now automatically created
