# Import Tasks from Excel

## Overview: import tasks from Excel

Excel task import uploads a spreadsheet of tasks into a project, which is used when migrating a punch list or issue list from another tool or a previous project.

* Your role must be project **Admin**.
* You can find the menu at **Project settings** - **Advanced** - **Import tasks**.
* This adds tasks to the project task list. Existing tasks are not overwritten unless they match specific identifiers.

|| Only users with the project role **Admin** can perform this action.

## How to import tasks from Excel

1. Go to **Project settings** in the project.
2. Select the **Advanced** tab.
3. Click **Import tasks**.
4. Upload your Excel file containing the tasks.

## Results: import tasks from Excel

* Imported tasks appear in the project task list
* You can edit, assign, or update them like manually created tasks
* Incorrectly formatted rows are skipped

## Troubleshooting: import tasks from Excel

| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Import option not visible | Project role is below Admin | Ask a project **Admin** to run the import or raise your role |
| Some tasks missing after import | Incorrect Excel format or empty rows | Check the file against the CxPlanner format and re-import |
| File upload fails | File type is not supported | Save the spreadsheet as .xlsx and upload again |
