Overview of the Assets Module
Purpose and Rationale
The new Assets module in CxPlanner has been developed to streamline project workflows, enhance consistency, and ensure that project activities are executed in a clearly defined order. By structuring commissioning processes around assets and their associated checklists, we enable more efficient data management, better traceability, and improved coordination across teams.
This module aims to centralize key testing and documentation efforts by tying them directly to the assets within a project. It introduces a scalable, structured approach that supports both small and large-scale commissioning projects across various industries.
When to Use the Asset Module vs. the System and Test View
Both modules offer unique strengths and are suited to different project needs. The Asset module is particularly advantageous when managing more than 200 assets, especially if a structured and detailed approach is required. It supports enhanced organization through asset-specific checklists, attributes, file references, and task management, making it ideal for asset-heavy projects.
In contrast, the System and Test view provides maximum flexibility, allowing users to build their workflow in a more free-form, customized manner. This view is best suited for projects that demand adaptability and creative structuring over standardized workflows.
Project Setup Process
You should just create a new project and follow the in-app guide. That will help you set up checklist types and assets.
1. Define Checklist Types
The initial step involves identifying the types of checklists that will be used for the project. Examples include:
Construction Projects: MCC (Mechanical Completion Checklist), PFC (Pre-Functional Checklist), FPT (Functional Performance Test)
Data Centers: Level 1 through Level 6 checklists
Manufacturers: FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), SAT (Site Acceptance Test), SIT (System Integration Test)
2. Define Asset Types
Next, define the various types of assets relevant to the project. Examples include:
AHU (Air Handling Unit)
FCU (Fan Coil Unit)
Compressor
3. Attach Checklists to Asset Types
Each asset type is linked to one or more checklist types. For example, an AHU in a construction project may require three checklists: MCC, PFC, and FPT. These are assigned to the AHU asset type and are associated with predefined templates from the CxPlanner template center.
Once configured, the CxPlanner sidebar displays a global view that aggregates all checklist types (e.g., MCC, PFC, FPT), with dedicated shortcuts for each individual checklist type as well.
Importantly, these configurations remain flexible: updates to checklist templates in the template center can be automatically re-imported to all relevant asset types with a single click.
Adding Assets
Assets can be added to a project in two ways:
Manually: Add assets one at a time via the interface
Bulk Import: Upload multiple assets via a CSV file
Upon asset creation, the system automatically associates the relevant checklists based on the asset type. Clicking on an asset opens a detailed view where users can:
View and edit asset attributes
Access attached checklists
Reference, upload, or manage related files
Review and manage all tasks associated with the asset
Asset View and Management Features
The main asset view is highly customizable to support diverse project needs. Key features include:
Column Control: Show/hide existing columns or add new metadata fields as needed
Grouping: Create parent-child tree structures based on one or more columns to represent hierarchical relationships among assets
View Management:
Save views for personal use
Save and enforce views at the project level to ensure standardized visibility across all users
These capabilities are designed to increase visibility, maintain control over asset documentation, and support the efficient execution of commissioning tasks.
The Assets module represents a significant enhancement to the CxPlanner platform, aligning commissioning workflows with asset-centric project models. This structured and flexible approach ensures teams remain aligned and tasks are completed in the correct sequence—delivering better project outcomes.
