Create and Replace Custom Fields in Reports

Overview

How do I add and update custom placeholders in reports?

Custom fields in CxPlanner reports allow you to create placeholders that can be replaced with specific text across the entire report in one action. This is useful when you need to update recurring names, titles, or project data without editing each occurrence manually.

Only users with the project role Manager or higher can create and update custom fields in reports.

When and why to use this

You should use custom fields when you want consistent text values across your reports and the flexibility to update them quickly.

  • Use when a name, role, or data point is repeated in multiple places.
  • The system replaces all occurrences of the placeholder in the report at once.
  • Ideal for items like Project Manager name, Client company, or Inspection date.
  • Updates apply instantly to all designated locations in the report.

Guide - How to Create and Replace Custom Fields in Reports

Create a custom field

  1. In your report template, type your placeholder text between two curly braces with spaces inside, e.g.

{{ Project Manager }}

  1. Repeat this for any additional placeholders you want to define.

Update a custom field in a project report

  1. Open the report in your project.
  2. Click the yellow Replace template text button.
  3. Enter the new value for the placeholder.
  4. Confirm to update all matching fields in the report.

Behavior and results

  • Placeholders must have spaces inside the curly braces to be recognized.
  • Updating a placeholder affects all instances of it in the report.
  • You can define multiple custom fields in the same report template.
  • Replacements are applied in the project-level report, not in the original template.
