Create a Data Center project in less than 5 minutes

Overview: data center project setup

The asset-based project wizard in CxPlanner lets you create a project, define commissioning levels, add asset types with quantities, attach checklist templates, and assign responsibilities, which is used when starting a structured data center commissioning project.

For spreadsheet bulk import of equipment, see the Excel asset import guides. For Template Center checklist creation, see the Template Center tutorials.

  • Your role must be Manager or Admin.
  • You can find the menu at Projects - Add Asset-Based Project.
  • This changes the project structure, assets, checklists, assignments, and scheduling.

Only users with the project role Manager or Admin can create and configure projects.

Levels and structure can be adjusted later. Checklists can be reused from templates. Assets can also be imported from a spreadsheet (.xlsx) or PDF after setup.

  1. Go to Projects in the sidebar.
  2. Create an Asset-Based project.
  3. Enter a project name and choose a project type (for example Data Center).

Add asset types

  1. Select asset types (for example ATS, PDU, Switchgear).
  2. Enter the quantity for each type.
  3. Create the project.

Example quantities: 5 ATS, 10 PDU, 5 server racks, 10 switchboards.

  2. Create or edit checklist types (levels).
  3. Add additional levels if needed.
  4. Define dependencies between levels.
  5. Configure approval workflows (for example Complete, Accept, Approve).

Assign checklists to assets

  1. Go to Types: Asset.
  2. Select an asset type (for example ATS).
  3. Add checklists to each level from the Template Center.
  4. Repeat for all relevant levels.
  5. Optionally save the setup as a template for reuse.

Assign checklists in System & Test view

  1. Go to System & Test view.
  2. Open a level (for example Level 2) and select the relevant checklists.
  3. Assign each checklist to a user, a company, or a user group.
