Generate QR Codes in Bulk for Assets
Overview
How do I generate multiple QR codes for assets at once?
Each asset in CxPlanner automatically has its own QR code. You can quickly create and download these codes in bulk directly from the asset overview.
When and why to use this
Generating QR codes in bulk is useful when you need to:
- You need to quick print to hand out QR tags to your guys.
- You are prepping the assets and need to label all QR codes.
Key facts:
- Each QR code links directly to its asset.
- Users scanning a QR code must still have permission to view the asset.
- You can download codes as individual PNG files or a bulk PDF.
- For large batches, always use bulk PDF to avoid excessive clicking.
How to - step by step
- Go to Assets Overview in the Asset Register module.
- Select the assets you want to include. You can multi-select by holding Shift.
- Click Bulk actions at the top.
- Choose one of the following:
- Generate QR codes (single PNG) – Downloads individual PNG files.
- Generate QR codes (bulk PDF) – Downloads all codes in one PDF file.
Behavior and results
- Single PNG – Saves each QR code as an individual file. Best for smaller batches or when files are used separately.
- Bulk PDF – Combines all selected QR codes into one PDF for easy printing. Recommended for large batches.
- The QR code format remains consistent and links directly to the asset’s page in CxPlanner.
- Scanning the QR code requires the user to log in and have access to the asset.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
QR code not opening asset | User lacks permission to view the asset | Request appropriate project role |
Unable to download bulk QR codes | Browser pop-up blocked | Allow pop-ups for CxPlanner |
Large batch download too slow | Many PNGs require multiple clicks | Use bulk PDF option instead |
Quick facts
- Requires: All users can print. Only users with access can access the data behind a QR.
- Location: Asset Register → Assets Overview → Bulk Actions
- Affects: Asset labeling, quick access in the field
