Import and Update assets from Excel (CSV)

Overview

How do I import or update assets in a project in CxPlanner?

CxPlanner lets you import new assets in bulk or update existing ones through export, editing, and re-import. This streamlines project setup and ongoing asset management.

Only users with the project role Manager or higher can perform these actions.

Video guide of the full process can be found below in the article

When and why to use this

  • Import new assets when starting a project or adding a large batch of equipment or components.
  • Update existing assets when you need to make bulk changes to data already in the system.
  • The system automatically assigns tags and categorizes assets based on your input.
  • Ensure the CSV delimiter setting matches your location (comma for US, semicolon for Europe/Asia).

How to add 1 new assets

  1. Open your project in CxPlanner

Navigate to your project from the dashboard.

  1. Go to the Asset Overview

Click Asset Overview in the sidebar.

  1. Generate a unique tag

Create a unique tag before adding assets.

  1. Select the asset type

Choose from the available types (e.g., ATS, BMS, Chiller, etc.).

How to import many new assets

To import you must have added Asset types before. Please review the help article on asset types, or add them in the sidebar on the left "Types: Assets"

  1. Download the import template

The CSV file will include main details (SELECT: comma for US, semicolon for Europe/Asia)

  1. Download the import template.

Fill in the required data: Tag + Asset type. Remember that the Asset type must be from the list.

  1. Upload the file

Use the upload option in the Asset Overview to complete the import.

How to update existing assets

  1. Export current asset data

Go to Asset Overview and download the current asset list as a CSV.

  1. Edit the CSV file
  • Make the necessary changes (e.g., update names, statuses, or other attributes).
  • Ensure you keep the original asset IDs intact so CxPlanner can match them.

  1. Re-import the updated file

Upload the edited CSV into Asset Overview to apply changes in bulk.

  1. Review the updates

Verify that all changes have been applied correctly.
