Import & Update assets using Excel (advanced)
Overview
How do I import and update assets using an Excel file in CxPlanner?
Importing assets from Excel allows you to quickly create or update large amounts of asset data in your project. You can use this feature to both add new assets and update existing ones using a structured Excel or CSV file.
When and why to use this
Use Excel import when you need to efficiently manage large datasets.
- When adding many assets at once instead of creating them manually
- When importing data from external systems such as ERP or BIM
- When updating multiple assets in bulk
- When standardizing asset data across a project
Key considerations:
- Only Asset ID and Asset Type are required for import
- The first row in your Excel file must contain column headers
- Custom column names require manual mapping during import
- Large files may take a few seconds to process
How to - step by step
Import new assets from Excel
- Go to your Project Dashboard.
- Navigate to Asset Overview.
- Click Options.
- Select Import.
- Click Choose file and upload your Excel or CSV file.
- Map your Excel columns to CxPlanner fields.
- Ensure required fields are mapped correctly:
- Asset ID → ID
- Asset Type → Type
- Map optional fields such as Name, Description, Manufacturer, and Model.
- If column names do not match automatically, manually select the correct fields.

Behavior and results
Import behavior
The system attempts to automatically map columns where names match CxPlanner fields. Unrecognized columns must be mapped manually. All data is validated before the final import.
Required vs optional fields
Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
Asset ID | Yes | Unique identifier for the asset |
Asset Type | Yes | Defines the asset category |
Name | No | Display name of the asset |
Manufacturer | No | Supplier or brand |
