Transfer project ownership to another user

Overview

How do I transfer ownership of a project to someone else?

If you're no longer responsible for a project, you can easily hand over the ownership to another team member. This gives them full administrative control over the project, including the ability to manage settings and users.

Only users with the project role Admin can transfer ownership of a project.

When and why to use this

Transferring ownership is useful when the current project administrator is stepping away or when responsibilities are changing hands.

  • Use this feature when the current project Admin no longer needs access or control.
  • The new owner will receive full administrative rights over the project.
  • The transfer is immediate and cannot be undone — double-check the email.

Guide - How to transfer project ownership to another user

  1. Open the project you want to transfer and go to the bottom of the sidebar and click Project Settings.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Scroll down to the section called Transfer Ownership of Project and enter the email address of the user you want to transfer ownership to.
  4. Confirm the transfer.

Behavior and results

Once ownership is transferred:

  • The recipient becomes the new project Admin with full rights.
  • Your own role may be reduced depending on your company role.
  • An ownership transfer cannot be undone from the interface - only the new owner can reverse it by transferring back.
  • The recipient must already be a user on the platform. If they are not, they will receive an invitation.
