Combine 3D-models
Overview
How do I combine 3D models in the file module?
In CxPlanner, you can combine multiple 3D models so they are displayed together in a single model view. This makes it easier to work with different discipline models in the same context — for example architecture, structure, and installations.
There are two methods for combining models:
- A quick combination, which is only temporary.
- A permanent combination, where a folder is created for the combined model.
When and why to use this
Combining 3D models is useful when you want to work with multiple discipline models in a single view.
Typical scenarios:
- When multiple disciplines need to be reviewed together.
- During coordination and model review.
- When you want to see clashes or relationships between models.
- When you want to create a permanent combined model for further work.
How to do it — step by step
Method 1: Quick combination of 3D models
This method is fast, but the combination is not saved.
- Select the 3D models you want to combine.
- Click Tools.
- Select Combine 3D models.
When the model opens, the selected models will be displayed together in a single view.

Method 2: Create a permanent combination of models
This method creates a permanent combination, which is saved in a folder.
- Select the 3D models you want to combine.
- Right-click the selected files.
- Select Combine files.
CxPlanner will then create a folder with the combined model, so you can always find and continue working with it.

System behavior and result
When models are combined in CxPlanner, the following happens:
Function | Quick combination | Permanent combination |
|---|---|---|
Saved in the system | No | Yes |
Can be reopened later | No | Yes |
Creates a new folder | No | Yes |
Best suited for | Quick viewing | Permanent coordination |
The permanent method makes it possible to continue working with the combined model without having to select the files again.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
Cannot combine models | Files are not selected or have not been converted | Select all desired models first |
The function is not visible | Missing permissions | Contact the project administrator |
The combination cannot be found | The quick method was used | Use the permanent method instead |
