Upload Files and ZIP Archives to the File Module
Overview: upload files and ZIP archives
The File module upload lets you add single files, multi-file bulk uploads, and ZIP archives with optional automatic extraction into the folder structure, which is used when centralising project documents, drawings, reports, and supporting materials in CxPlanner.
Storage monitoring and license limits are covered briefly here; see the linked storage article for more detail.
- Your role must include upload (write) access on the target folder. Admin always has access. Other roles need folder permission first.
- You can find the menu at File module - folder with a blue plus - Upload.
- This changes the file repository, folder structure, and global license storage usage.
Requirements for uploading files
Requirement | Description |
|---|---|
Folder access | Write or upload permission on the target folder |
Folder indicator | A blue plus on the folder means you can upload |
Max file size | 5 GB per individual file |
Storage | Shared across all projects under your license |
How to upload files
- Navigate to the File module.
- Click a folder that shows a blue plus symbol. This indicates you have upload rights.
- Click Upload.
- Drag files into the upload field, or click to browse and select files.
- Click Upload to begin.

How to upload and extract a ZIP file
- Open the Upload dialog as above.
- Add a ZIP file.
- When the yellow message box appears, tick Extract ZIP.
- Complete the upload so CxPlanner creates subfolders and files matching the ZIP structure.

See help page here on the topic.
Troubleshooting: upload files and ZIP archives
Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
Upload button not visible | Your user or group lacks write access on the folder | Ask a project Manager or Admin to grant write access on that folder |
ZIP file not extracted | Extract ZIP was not ticked | Re-upload the ZIP and tick Extract ZIP |
Upload fails | File exceeds 5 GB | Split the file into parts under 5 GB, or compress differently, then retry |
Reached storage limit | License storage cap reached | Open Company profile - Company agreement as company Administrator, or ask that person to request more storage |
