Create new checklist modules or sidebar shortcuts
Overview
How do I organize checklists into separate groups or modules?
If you are managing hundreds or even thousands of checklists in CxPlanner, you can divide them into custom modules or create shortcuts in the sidebar for easier navigation. This allows you to keep systems, subsystems, and test phases organized.
When and why to use this
You might want to create new modules or shortcuts when:
- You have many checklists that need to be grouped for easier navigation.
- You want to separate different test phases (e.g., Level 1 vs. Level 2).
- You want to distinguish between disciplines (e.g., mechanical vs. electrical).
- You need specific sub-menus to show only relevant systems.
System behavior to keep in mind:
- Checklists created in a new module instance are stored separately from the default module.
- If a module instance is deleted, its checklists are automatically moved back to the default module.
- Shortcuts in the sidebar do not move or duplicate checklists - they just provide alternative navigation.
How to - step by step
Create a shortcut from the sidebar
- Go to System and Test view.
- Right-click on a checklist, system, or asset.
- Select Add shortcut to sidebar.
- The new shortcut will now appear in your sidebar for quick access.
Video example:
Create a new module instance
- Open the Menu.
- Select Settings.
- Scroll all the way down to the bottom and click Add new module instance.
- (Optional) Change the sorting order in the sidebar.
- (Optional) Update the module name.
- To remove it, select Delete.
Behavior and results
Shortcut behavior
- Shortcuts are simply quick links.
- They do not move, duplicate, or separate checklists.
- Useful when you need to create “zones” for specific sub-systems.
Module instance behavior
- Each module instance functions as a separate container.
- All checklists created inside remain isolated from other modules.
- If you delete the module instance, its checklists are returned to the default module.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
Can't create shortcut or module | Insufficient project role | Ask a project Admin to grant access |
Deleted module but checklists missing | They were moved to the default module | Check the default module in the sidebar |
Sidebar shortcut not showing | Refresh not applied | Refresh the page and check again |
Quick facts
- Requires: Project role Admin or higher
- Location: Menu → Settings (for modules) / System & Test view (for shortcuts)
- Affects: Checklist organization, sidebar navigation
