Customize optional fields in checklist templates
Overview
How can I change the name of optional checklist fields or add new ones?
In CxPlanner you can customize template fields such as Scope, Method, and others. This makes your checklists fit your project’s terminology and workflow.
When and why to use this
Customizing optional fields helps you align checklists with your project standards. For example, you may want to rename Scope to System or add extra fields for reporting.
Key facts:
- Use this when your project requires specific terminology.
- The changes apply to all checklists created from the template.
- If multiple templates are combined, the latest imported template settings will overwrite previous field names.
How to - step by step
- Open the checklist Template you want to edit.
- Click directly on the column header of the field you want to customize.
- In the editor, you can:
- Change the field name
- Enable additional fields
- Save your changes
- Edit the PASS/FAIL/NA options

Behavior and results
Template precedence
When importing or combining templates, the last imported template determines the naming of optional fields.
Example:
- Template A renames Scope → Area
- Template B renames Scope → System
- If Template A is imported first, and Template B second, then all fields named Scope in checklists will become System.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
Field names changed unexpectedly | A new template was imported and overwrote them | Re-import the correct template or adjust field names manually |
Cannot edit fields | Insufficient permissions | Ask a Manager or Admin to make changes |
Quick facts
- Requires: Project role Manager or higher
- Location: Templates → Checklist fields
- Affects: Field labels inside all checklists created from the template
