Cut/split a 3D model

The Cut function in the 3D viewer in the File Module lets you cut a 3D model open at a chosen point, so you can see inside the model and inspect what lies behind a wall, a ceiling, or another building element - for example ventilation ducts behind a ceiling panel or pipes inside a wall - without having to isolate or hide elements manually one by one.

There is no role restriction on the Cut function. If you have access to open the 3D file, you can use it.

Cut the model open with Cut

  1. Open the 3D model in the File Module.
  2. Right-click the point in the model where you want to make your cut.
  3. Select Cut in the menu that opens.

The model is now cut open at the selected point, so you can see inside it.

Adjust what the cut shows

After making your cut, you can drag the arrow to move the cutting plane and control how much of the model is shown or hidden.

  1. Click and hold the arrow.
  2. Drag it until you can see the area of the model you're interested in.

You can adjust the cut as many times as you like while working in the model.
