Edit assets directly in asset overview
Overview
How do I edit multiple assets at once in CxPlanner without using Excel?
The bulk edit and multi-cell update feature in the Asset Module allows you to select and update multiple assets directly in the Asset Overview grid - including field values and active/inactive status - without downloading or uploading any files. This is used when you need to make fast, targeted changes across many assets during commissioning or project setup.
This guide covers in-grid bulk editing and status filtering.
When and why to use this
Use in-grid editing when you need to update a small to medium number of assets quickly.
- When correcting field values across several assets at once
- When activating or deactivating assets as a project progresses
- When filtering the overview to show only active or inactive assets
- When Excel export/import would be disproportionate for the change needed
Key considerations:
- Select multiple assets before clicking Edit to apply changes to all selected
- Status (active/inactive) controls which assets appear in checklists and reporting
- Use Options → Bulk Update (Excel-based) for large-scale data replacement
How to - step by step
Select and edit multiple assets
- Go to Asset Overview.
- Check the boxes next to each asset you want to edit.
- Click on the relevant Column in the grid.
- Write your update in the relevant fields - changes apply to all selected assets.

Behavior and results
Multi-cell editing
When multiple assets are selected and you Edit, the same field value is written to all selected assets. Fields you leave blank are not changed.
Status behavior
Status | Effect |
|---|---|
Active | Asset appears in checklists, overview, and reporting |
Inactive | Asset is hidden from default views and excluded from reporting |
When to use grid editing vs. Excel Bulk Update
Situation | Recommended method |
|---|---|
Updating a few assets quickly | Grid editing (select + Edit) |
Replacing data across many assets | Options → Bulk Update (Excel) |
Adding new assets | Options → Import (Excel) |
Troubleshooting
Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
Edit button is greyed out | No assets selected, or insufficient role | Select at least one asset, or ask your Admin to check your project role |
Status filter shows no results | No assets match the selected status | Check if assets have been assigned a status, or clear the filter |
Changes not saved | Session timeout or navigation before save | Re-apply changes and click Save before leaving the page |
Inactive assets still appear in checklists | Status change not saved | Confirm status was saved - check the Status column in the overview |
Quick facts
