Rename an asset type
The asset type rename feature in the Asset module lets you change the name of an existing asset type - for example AHU, FCU, or Generator - directly from Types: Assets, without recreating the type or moving any equipment. This is useful when a type was created with a typo or an overly generic name during an Excel import, or when project needs evolve and a type like Generator needs to become Diesel Generator - Emergency for clearer reporting.
Rename an asset type in Types: Assets
- Open your project and go to the Asset module.
- In the left sidebar, click Types: Assets.
- Locate the asset type you want to rename in the list.
- Click the pencil icon next to the asset type name.
- Edit the name in the field that appears.
- Save your changes.

What happens to existing assets after a rename
Assets, checklists, and records already using that asset type keep all their existing data. Renaming only changes the display name shown across the project - it does not move, duplicate, or disconnect any assets currently assigned to that type.
