How do I change a task type or move a task to another checklist?
You can update a task's type or relocate it to a different checklist directly from the task menu. This helps ensure proper categorization and maintains checklist accuracy during project execution.
When and why to use this
Changing task types or relocating tasks is essential for managing checklists accurately and reflecting the correct project workflow.
- Use this when a task was created under the wrong type
- Use this when a task or observation needs to be assigned to a different checklist
- Task types available depend on which tools/modules are activated in project settings
Guide - How to change a task type:
- Open the Punchlist Items & Tasks module from the left sidebar.
- Locate and open the task you want to modify. In this example, we are editing task ID 12 labeled “Failed Observation.”
- Click the three gears icon in the top-right corner of the task view.
- Select Change Task Type and click the blue Type button.
- Choose the new task type from the list.

The desired option is not available
If a certain task type (e.g., Inspection Point or Issue) is missing, it may not be enabled for your project.

- Go to Project Settings in the lower-left menu.
- Open the Tools / Modules tab.
- Locate the desired tool/module (e.g., Final Inspection) and activate it using the toggle switch.

If an observation was mistakenly added to the wrong checklist, it can be reassigned.
To move a task to another checklist:
- Open the Punchlist Items & Tasks module.
- Locate and open the observation or task you want to move. In this case, the task is labeled "Failed Observation" with the reference "Test 1".
- Click the three gears icon in the top-right corner.
- Select Change Task Type.
- Choose Reference/Checklist as the new task type.
- Open the target checklist in a new tab, copy its URL.
- Paste the URL into the reference field in the task.
- The task will now appear at the bottom of the selected checklist.

Behavior and results
Changing a task type or linking it to a new checklist updates its classification and context within the project. The task ID remains the same, and its history is preserved.
