Create custom tasks groups for better overview

Overview

How do I organize tasks into groups or sub-groups for better overview?

In CxPlanner, you can create custom task groups directly in the task view. This allows you to segment and organize tasks based on your own logic, such as systems, zones, or disciplines.

All users with access to the task module can create and manage their own task group views.

When and why to use this

Creating custom task groups is useful when you want to simplify your view or structure tasks in a way that makes sense for your project.

  • Use custom groups to organize tasks by category, phase, or responsibility.
  • Grouping is a personal view setting—it doesn’t affect what other users see.
  • You can group by one or multiple fields (e.g., system and status).

Guide - How to create a single group

  1. Navigate to the Task module.
  2. Right-click on the column header you want to group by.
  3. Select Create new group.
  4. Your tasks will now be grouped accordingly.

Guide - How to group by multiple fields

  1. After you’ve created the first group, right-click another column header
  2. Select Add to group to include additional fields in the grouping.

Behavior and results

  • Grouping is user-specific - only visible to the person setting it.
  • Each group can be expanded or collapsed to focus on relevant sections.
  • You can reset or change the grouping at any time by right-clicking on the headers again.
  • Tasks can belong to multiple group levels depending on your selections.
