View and edit an individual asset detail page

Overview

How do I view the full details, files, tasks, checklists, and QR code for a single asset in CxPlanner?

The individual asset detail panel in the Asset module provides a tabbed side panel for each asset in the Assets overview, allowing you to view and edit asset metadata, linked checklists, tasks, files, floorplan placement, and QR codes from a single panel, which is used during commissioning and handover to track the status of individual pieces of equipment across all project workstreams.

This guide covers navigating the asset detail panel tabs and creating custom asset attributes. For a reference of all standard asset fields and what they mean, see [Asset fields reference]. For removing custom columns, see [Remove custom columns in asset module]. Viewers can view the asset detail panel; Manager or higher is required to edit fields or add custom attributes.

Only users with project role Manager or higher can edit asset fields or add custom attributes.

When and why to use this

Use the asset detail panel when you need to check or update all information associated with a specific piece of equipment - including its assigned checklists, linked tasks, uploaded files, and nameplate photo. This panel is the central record for each asset and is referenced by QR code scanning on site.

  • When this is needed - when a commissioning engineer needs to verify checklist completion for a specific asset, when a site supervisor scans a QR code to pull up equipment details, or when a project manager needs to attach core documentation to an asset record
  • What the system does - opens a side panel with multiple tabs covering all data associated with the asset; changes save immediately per field
  • Limitations - the Floorplan tab requires a floorplan to have been uploaded to the project; the Photo tab feeds the CxAI nameplate enrichment feature and accepts one nameplate photo per asset

How to

Open the asset detail panel

  1. Open your project in CxPlanner and navigate to the Asset module.
  2. Click Assets overview in the sub-navigation.
  3. Locate the asset you want to view. Click the Asset ID or the asset Name in any row.
  4. Use the tabs at the top of the panel to move between sections:

QR-Code

The asset's QR code. Two URLs are displayed as static text: a web link and an app deep link. Click the QR code image itself to download it. Both formats are always generated simultaneously. AI Auto find files behavior

When you click AI Auto find files on the Files tab, CxAI scans all files in the project and matches files to this asset based on:

  • Exact or partial match on the Asset ID (e.g., AHU-001)
  • Matching tags applied to both the file and the asset
  • Name pattern similarity between the file name and asset name

Matched files appear under Referenced Files. Review matches before using them - CxAI may suggest files that share an ID pattern with a different asset.

Custom attribute column behavior

Custom attributes created in Types: Assets automatically appear as:

  • Additional columns in the Assets overview (sortable, filterable, and included in exports)
  • Additional fields in the asset detail panel for all assets of that type

To control which columns are visible in the Assets overview, use the column settings. To remove a custom attribute column, see [Remove custom columns in asset module].

Troubleshooting

Problem

Cause

Solution

Floorplan tab shows no map

No floorplan has been uploaded to the project

Ask your project Admin to upload a floorplan under Project Settings

AI Auto find files returns no matches

Asset ID or name does not match any file names or tags in the project

Manually link files using the Referenced Files section, or ensure files are named or tagged with the asset ID

Custom attribute does not appear in the asset detail panel

The attribute was created for a different asset type

Navigate to Types: Assets, select the correct asset type, and add the attribute to that type

QR code download produces a broken link

The project URL or app deep link base URL has changed

Contact your CxPlanner Admin to verify the project URL configuration

Quick facts

  • Requires: Viewer or higher to view; Manager or higher to edit fields or add custom attributes
  • Location: Asset module - Assets overview - click any Asset ID or Name
  • Affects: Asset record data, linked files, checklist assignments, floorplan placement, and QR code output
