Enable native camera on Microsoft Surface laptop/tablet

Overview

How do I make the camera button visible on a Microsoft Surface device?

On certain devices - such as the Microsoft Surface - CxPlanner may detect the device as a laptop, even though it functions as a tablet. In these cases, the native camera button is hidden by default.

To improve your workflow, you can manually enable the camera button so it appears the same way as on a tablet.

Only users with a company role User or higher can enable this setting in their account.

When and why to use this

You may need to enable the camera button when:

  • Working on a Microsoft Surface or similar device detected as a laptop.
  • You want to take photos directly from the device camera within CxPlanner.
  • You notice the camera button is missing in your interface.

System behavior:

  • By default, Surface devices are treated as laptops → camera button hidden.
  • Once enabled, the button appears across your CxPlanner interface.
  • This setting is specific to your personal account, not project-wide.

How to - step by step

  1. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Select Account Settings.
  3. Locate the option “Show camera button on Surface devices.”
  4. Enable the option by switching it on.
  5. The camera button will now appear in your interface, allowing you to take photos directly.

Behavior and results

Once the setting is enabled:

  • The camera button will always be visible in your CxPlanner interface.
  • You can take photos directly from your Surface device without leaving the platform.
  • The button behaves the same way as on a native tablet.
