Overview: note field on a checklist
The note field in Template Center lets you insert free text into a checklist template, which is used to record clarifications, instructions, or context that does not fit a pass or fail line item (checklist item).
Notes do not create pass or fail results. For site-inspection detailed descriptions, see the site inspection notes guide.
- You can find the menu at Template Center - open checklist - Add test item - Actions - Note field.
How to add a note field to a checklist
- Open your checklist inside the Template Center.
- Click Add test item.
- Select Actions.
- Choose Note field.
- Enter text in the new note field as needed.

Results: note field on a checklist
- Note fields are free-text only and have no pass or fail state
- Notes stay on the checklist and can appear in reports and exports
- You can add multiple note fields for different sections
Troubleshooting: note field on a checklist
Problem | Cause | Solution |

Note field option not visible | Project role is below Manager | Ask a project Manager or Admin to add the note field, or raise your role |
Note text missing from export | Export settings exclude notes | Open export settings and enable notes, then export again |
Cannot edit an existing note | Checklist is locked or finalized | Unlock the checklist if your role allows it, or duplicate the checklist and edit the copy |
