Add detailed descriptions/notes to a site-inspection report
Overview: site inspection detailed description
The Detailed description field in Template Center lets you expand a site inspection template with a longer text area for remarks, field notes, or inspection notes, which is used when a checkbox or short comment is not enough on site.
For a free-text note field on a commissioning checklist template, see Add a note field to a checklist.
- Your role must be Manager or Admin.
- You can find the menu at Template Center - open template - Detailed description.
- This changes the template fields shown when users perform site inspections.
How to turn on Detailed description
- Go to Template Center.
- Open your template.
- Scroll down and add Detailed description.
Once enabled and imported, users performing site inspections see an expanded text field for more detail on their observations.

How to use Notes on a site inspection
Use Notes for context that helps others understand the situation and next steps. For example:
- What was observed on site (what, where, when)
- Possible cause, if known
- Impact or risk, if relevant
- Suggested action and responsible party
- Access constraints or dependencies
Results: site inspection detailed description
- Users see the expanded text field when performing the inspection
- Notes stay with the inspection record for later review
- Required fields can still be configured separately in Template Center
